 Closed Captions

Captions are now available so you can read what you can’t hear and enjoy the latest movies with your family and friends. Captions are delivered via a personal device, with a high contrast display and privacy screen, so only you can see the captions. This means that you can sit in any seat in the cinema. Please see staff at the cinema to collect the equipment and please note the equipment is subject to availability and you may be asked to leave a form of ID to ensure the safe return of the equipment.

 Infrared
This system consists of infrared transmitters mounted in the cinema that carry the sound to a receiver that you wear. Each of our cinemas has slightly different infrared technology so please contact your local cinema for more information. At some cinemas, if you wear hearing aids we provide you with a neck loop to pick up the sound, and for those who do not use hearing aids, headsets can be supplied. At other cinemas only the headset is available. The best place to sit in the cinema is the middle section of the auditorium, but please see staff at the cinema for more details about this.

Hearing Aid Loop
This system consists of a wire loop installed in the cinema and is connected to the sound system, creating a magnetic field within the looped area that transmits sound to the hearing aid you wear. You’ll need to turn your hearing aid to the T switch to pick this up. The best place to sit in the cinema is the middle section of seats up the back, but please see staff at the cinema for more details about this.

OC Open Captions (Captions on the screen)
Open captions are a text version of the spoken words in a movie, and description of any auditory cues such as ringing doorbells or explosive sound effects. Captions are projected onto the main cinema screen for the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing and people who have English as a second language. Open Caption sessions are available on Tuesdays at select locations.

Visually Impaired

For our visually impaired guests, now you can listen to audio-described movies so you can hear things you might have difficulty seeing with a spoken commentary and enjoy all the parts of a movie, including visual jokes, visual scenes, settings and body language. The audio description is delivered through a personal headset or neck loop. This means that you can sit in any seat in the cinema. Please see staff at the cinema to collect the equipment and please note the equipment is subject to availability and you may be asked to leave a form of ID to ensure the safe return of the equipment.

Audio-Description is available in select auditoriums at EVENT Cinemas Manukau, New Plymouth, Newmarket (Westfield), Queen Street, Queensgate, Tauranga Crossing and Whangarei. Please note that not all movies are made AD capabale.

Mobility Impaired

Our theatres have wheelchair spaces with companion seating. Some wheelchair spaces may be available even if the session is sold out! Be sure to ask at the box office of your local cinema for availability.

The above offerings are subject to availability and may vary by movie and location. Event Cinemas would like to apologise in advance if, due to previous customer selection, the Captiview Units are not available at the time of your visit.
